Panic Time?

It sure seems like it as the Yanks have benched Jason Giambi in favor of Melky Cabrera for today's Game Four. Oh, and A-Rod is hitting 8th. How does Joe Torre even look him in the eye anymore? This is amazing.

It's really not fair that Ross isn't here to post during this series...

Can we get another shot at an A-Rod/Manny trade again this offseason? It's hard to imagine given all the things Red Sox players have said about A-Rod, but you have to think that Theo would love to buy low here.

The Yankees obviously can't do this if they pick up Sheffield's option. Plus it would probably never happen anyway.

I don't really understand all of this - even if you think A-Rod is not hitting well, how does batting him 8th help? In such a deep lineup, does it even matter all that much where he hits? If this is a confidence problem, this sure seems the wrong approach. But what do I know?

Benching Giambi seems pretty weird, too.

Yeah, I don't agree with any of this. All the talk coming in was that this was the best lineup ever, and despite the contributions that they got from guys like Cabrera in the regular season, the lineup was pretty much set. Now after two bad games, they're going back to the August lineup and destroying A-Rod's confidence.

And what happens if they win??? Do they keep Giambi on the bench and A-Rod 8th for the rest of the playoffs? How do you sell that to each of them? Torre's just throwing stuff against the wall.

As for the A-Rod/Manny trade, I'm torn. On the one hand, I hate Manny because he only plays whenever he feels like it. But he's a hell of a hitter, and pressure doesn't get to him. A-Rod's a stud when his head's on right, but I think he needs to get out of this rivalry in order to screw it back on. If I were the Yanks, I'd trade him to the Cubs.

The thing is, I think he'd veto any trade anyway, so how does he react if he gets shopped around after another playoff failure under the bright lights of NYC? We're getting ahead of ourselves, and this is probably a whole other post anyway, but it's very complicated.

Anyway, to answer your question, I'd tend to say I'd rather trade Manny somewhere else this off-season, but I'll think about that after the playoffs.
