September Rosters

Well, it's just about time to expand the rosters.

My problem is that some of the people I would like the Yankees to bring up, are not on the 40-man roster. Jose Cruz, Jr., a recent addition in Scranton, would be a good person to bring up. In his last 4 games he's 9-for-17, with 2 walks, 4 extra base hits, and 3 stolen bases.

He'd be good for some late-inning work and pinch running. Most of their best people for pinch running aren't on the 40-man roster.

One who is, is Alberto Gonzalez. Supposedly a defensive whiz, Gonzalez came over in the Randy Johnson trade, and in blowouts, he be a great person to put in for Derek Jeter, and he could pinch run in close games. So hopefully they'll bring Gonzalez up.

Doug Mientkiewicz, amazingly and coincidentally happens to be ready to come off the DL at the same time the rosters expand. I'm sure we'll see him for late-inning defense.

Of course, there's also the question of the fact that Scranton is going to the playoffs. Do they wait on some of these people to give them a chance to win the AAA championship.

Gonzalez is the one I hope they bring up the most. I'd like to see Cruz as well, but it seems unlikely. Then whatever pitchers they feel like, but I can't imagine any of them getting anything but mop-up work.
