Matsuzaka

Well, unfortunately (from my point of view), he made an impressive debut. Yes, it was against the Royals, but that's not his fault.

He should definitely be starting against the Yankees (a much better test) at Fenway during the April 20-22 series. If the Red Sox push Tavarez back after their April 9th off-day, then Matsuzaka will pitch at Yankee Stadium in April as well.

Just in case anybody was wondering if Jason Varitek and Coco Crisp are done, Varitek went 1-for-11 and Crisp 1-for-10 (with 4 K's) against Kansas City Royal pitching. If that's not a bad sign for the two of them, I don't know what is.

I was impressed. He got into trouble in the first, and then cruised through the fourth before getting into trouble again in the fifth and giving up the homer in the sixth. Still, 10 K's and seven baserunners in seven innings is a pretty impressive debut. His next outing is against Seattle, so we'll have to wait for Marathon Monday to see how he does against a real team.

As for Varitek and Crisp, I am worried, but, small sample size. Give them a few weeks.
