The End of the Red Sox

From the AP:

Boston also hired former Kansas City Royals general manager Allard Baird as a special assignment scout. Baird spent 18 years with the Royals and was fired May 31 after serving five full seasons as GM.

How much damage could he really do as a scout? From what I've read, he's a pretty good talent evaluator, he was just a sucky GM (for many reasons, some of his own doing, and some of ownership). As long as they don't promote him, I can live with it...

You've actually got a really good scout in your system. This is the guy that signed Damon and Beltran while he was a scout, and rescued Raul Ibanez from the scrap heap. He was a great evaluator of talent, he was just over his head as a GM. Smarter guys like Beane could easily, and often did, take advantage of him. There's also rumors of his owner nixing several trades and requiring him to get major league players back in trades (like getting Nefi Perez for Dye, and Roberto Hernandez for Damon)...
Everyone in KC hopes he does well, including me.
