Jason Johnson

As soon as I heard that the Indians had DFA'd him, I wondered if the Red Sox would approach the Tribe about a Snow-Johnson trade. Well, I guess they talked about part of it, because the Sox just got Johnson and most of his remaining salary for a PTBNL or cash.

I guess he's a low-risk gamble worth taking, and his high groundball ratio should be an asset in front of Boston's improved infield defense, but he's not really the answer. Honestly, I thought Kyle Snyder would get another shot after he pitched pretty well on Monday night. But as a reward for allowing just 4 Nationals to reach base in 5 innings, he's been sent to Pawtucket.

The Sox are clearly in a hunt for the 2006 version of Aaron Small. That's not a good place to be, but I'd rather this than overpaying for someone like Armas or Weaver.
