Desperate Times....

For the third consecutive game Mariano Rivera was unavailable. For the third consecutive game the Yankees blew the lead in the 8th or 9th inning.

Farnsworth picked up the blown save and the loss on Thursday by giving up two runs in the 9th.

Farnsworth then got the blown save and the win, by giving up an inherited run in the 8th, and a 1-2-3 9th after the Yankees retook the lead on Friday.

With Farnworth pitching so much over the past two days, he joined Rivera as unavailable. That left the closer role to Scott Proctor, and you can imagine how that went. Johnny Damon hit a home run to lead off the 10th, to give the Yankees a 1-run lead.

Mike Myers came in to get Brian Roberts out to lead off the bottom of the 10th, but then came the right handed hitters, so Myers was taken out of the game.

Who would Joe Torre bring in to get the save? Chien-Ming Wang is who.

Wang of 1 professional relief apperance (in Columbus two years ago) since starting with the Staten Island Yankees in 2000. It wasn't easy for Wang to finish it. He got the 2nd out no problem, but then two ground balls (not hard hit), got through the right side of the infield. Wang got Javy Lopez for the final out though, and he picks up a surprising save.
