Sox-Yanks rubber game

I'll run a game thread here so Ross knows what happened when he gets home. I'm a little behind on TiVo, but Melky led off the first with what should have been an infield single, but he was called out. Clement got the next two in order.

Youkilis singled to lead off the bottom of the first and Manny just creamed a Johnson fastball over Landsdowne Street for an early 2-0 lead. Ortiz looked bad striking out and is definitely in a srump.

Bernie Williams just hit a liner off of Clement's leg, putting men on first and second with two outs in the top of the second (with Long "batting").

We'll see how Clement reacts, given all of the hullabaloo surrounding his beaning in Tampa last year.

Clement walks(!!!) Long to load the bases, hits Stinnett to drive in a run, and gives up a 2-run single to Mekly for a 3-2 Yankees lead. Jerry Remy just pointed out that opponents are hitting close to .450 off of Clement with runners in scoring position. I just threw up in my mouth.

After a Jeter RBI double, Clement got Sheffield to end the inning as Jermaine Van Buren (called up to replace recently DL'd Lenny DiNardo) warmed up in the 'pen.

Johnson struck out Pena and Mohr to start out the bottom of the second, but Gonzalez hit a broken bat blooper the other way, and then Youkilis hit a bomb into the monster seats for a 4-4 tie. Crazy game so far. Good times...

The Sox took the lead in the bottom of the third when Manny ran through the stop sign at third base and scored on a single to right. Clement is still giving up hits in the top of the fifth - enough of them to let the Yanks get 2 runs and take a 6-5 lead now with nobody out and men on first and second, er, second and third now on a wild pitch. YANK HIM ALREADY! His foot hurts!!!

Yankees get it to 8-5 before Clement is lifted in the 5th. Tavares in now in the sixth and struggling. Full count to Bernie (3-for-3) with two out and two on.

Bernie (now 3-for-4) strikes out.
