Red Sox-Phillies

As long as we've already got a de facto Yankees-Mets thread, here's the one for the Sox-Phils.

Ortiz is starting at first base without the DH, Youkilis is sitting, and Trot Nixon is leading off.

Lowell hit a two-run bomb in the second and the Sox lead 2-0 after two and a half. Clement has looked good on the mound, terrible at the plate, striking out on four pitches.

And my Yankees-Mets feed just went down again. Argh...

While I was researching the Dolphins Super Bowl history for my comment on Ross' realignment post, Varitek went yard to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.

Shane Victorino goes yard in the bottom of the 4th. 3-1 Red Sox.

He's now hitting .466 since Rowand got hurt. See, these are the stats I would never know if not for interleague play.

After Clement led off the top of the fifth with a double(!!!), Ortiz hit an absolute BOMB into the second deck in right field at Citizen's Bank Park with two outs, increasing the lead to 5-1.

That was a titanic shot...

Clement actually singled and advanced on a throwing error. I was in the laundry room and missed it, but I came back and saw him on second, so I just assumed.

You've gotta love Philly. A bunch of clowns wearing fake fumanchu's are out in the bleachers calling themselves Sal's Pals, in honor of Sal Fasano. I can't think of another place where the backup catcher would get so much attention.

Francona over-manages and brings in Snow as a defensive replacement for Ortiz in the bottom of the seventh. He's now hitting 3rd in front of Manny against a pretty good offensive team that would make this interesting at any moment. It's way to early for this crap, Terry.

On freakin' cue, Clement gets into a jam in the bottom of the 7th, despite Snow's great defense, and Francona brings in Foulke with two outs. Utley, after barely missing a DEEP home run down the right field line, ends up hitting a 2-run double, cutting the lead to 5-3. Foulke got out of it after that, but you can just see Snow coming up in a big situation before this game is over. I will now force myself to watch the NBA playoffs.

Sox hang on to win 5-3. Clement looked good until the 7th. Timlin and Papelbon locked it down late. Three homers from Lowell, Varitek, and Ortiz provided all of the runs.

Victorino homered and Utley had a 2-run double for Philly. Leiber was blah, but the bullpen was solid. Beckett vs. Myers tomorrow, but I'll be at a bachelor party (not mine), so I won't be able to watch.
