Clemens back to Houston?

WFAN is reporting that Clemens has agreed to pitch for the Astros for the rest of the season, for the low, low price of $10 million. No word on when he'll be officially activated. I'll post a link when I find one.

Now, Red Sox fans, was that silly two-month tease worth it?

EDIT: Found a link - I guess it was Newsday that broke the story.

EDIT #2: The Astros and Clemens' agent are denying the report now. Damn.

I love the sense of denial in Boston about this whole thing. Here's the blurb at the top of boston.com:

"If a Newsday report is correct, it seems the Red Sox are left holding a losing ticket in the Roger Clemens sweepstakes. Newsday reported on its website that the Astros will announce as soon as today that they’ve signed Clemens to a pro-rated one-year deal. The report did not cite any sources for this information."

Translation: Larry Lucchino has instructed us to tell you that this isn't over, even though it is. But he doesn't want you to think that David Pauley will have to make more than one start this year, because then you'd stop buying Clemens t-shirts.

Clemens used the Red Sox as a way to make more money? I don't believe it.

The Astros are denying it:

Houston Astros general manager Tim Purpura denied a report on Tuesday that Roger Clemens had picked a team for 2006, saying the situation was "status quo."

Clemens' agent, Randy Hendricks, also denied the report.
