Written in Stone

If on May 29th, somebody said to me "It is written in stone, one New York team will make the playoffs, one will not," even I would have had a hard time betting the one making it would be the Yankees. If I had to be my life on it, I'm not sure I would have made the right decision (although in casual conversation, I surely would have).

On that day the Yankees were in last place in the AL East, 14.5 games out of first.

The Mets on the other hand had the National League's top record. They were 5 games in first (8 ahead of the Phillies) and were second only to the Red Sox in record. Assuming the Mets lose today and the Yankeees win, not hard assumptions given their current scores, their records since May 29th:

Mets: 55 - 57
Yankees: 73 - 39
Red Sox: 60 - 50

I still have faith in the Phillies finding some way to blow their lead. We could still end up with two New York teams in the playoffs.

Probably not, but gimme something.

I'm sorry Warren... that's a rough way to end the season. I'm excited that we at least get one one-game playoff tomorrow, but I was really pulling for the four-way tie. Stupid Marlins.

This two-team tie is getting pretty exciting. I need to go to sleep but how can somebody do that in the 13th inning?
