Clutch

Derek Jeter is second only to BJ Upton with runners in scoring position this season, now batting .481.

Jeter also leads the league in RISP w/2 outs as he's 9-for-15 in those situations.

David Ortiz is batting .371 with runners in scoring position. I don't think there's anybody in baseball we think of as clutch as much as we do Jeter and Ortiz. This is bad news for all the people who don't believe in clutch, as both of them seem to be proving it with numbers once again.

Jeter may be a clutch hitter, but I wouldn't use his hitting with runners in scoring position as proof of that. His career numbers:

Bases empty: .314/.380/.476
RISP: .309/.406/.435

He hits better with runners in scoring position than with the bases empty roughly every other year. Sounds suspiciously random :)

Ortiz has hit worse with runners on than with the bases empty for his career as well, if you care.
