Sheffield in, Giambi out

Sheffield is listed in the preliminary Yankee lineup for tonight, batting third and DH-ing. Although he hasn't officially been activated from the DL yet, so they may be waiting to see how he feels after batting practice. Giambi is not starting, and Andy Phillips is playing first.

For the Sox, Alex Cora (hitting seventh, for some strange reason) starts at shortstop over Alex Gonzalez for the second straight day, proving what was obvious in spring training: picking up Gonzalez's guaranteed $3 million contract was a stupid thing to do when you already have the same exact player on the roster.

Dustin Pedroia is not exactly lighting it up in AAA, either: .241/.336/.339. He's walked more than he's struck out, which is good, but that's about it.

That's true, but they could have kept Graffanino and saved themselves a million bucks. At least Graffanino can hit.
