Mets add more reinforcements
The Mets added their second starter in two days today, acquiring Dave Williams and cash from the Reds for minor leaguer Robert Manuel. I know nothing about Manuel, but this seems like a worthwhile gamble if it keeps Jeremei Gonzalez out of the rotation.
EDIT: In AL East news, the Blue Jays also signed Edgardo Alfonzo to a minor league deal. Eh. They need middle infield help now that they sent down Adams, but can Fonzie still play second? No risk, I suppose, but I don't think the potential reward is very high, either.

I'm not sure Williams is really any better than Jeremi Gonzalez, but they gave up basically nothing to get him, and it's not my million. This was a definite salary dump for the Reds, because from what I've read Williams had one more option, but the Reds designated him for assignment anyway.
I'd like to see Alay Soler again, so I'd be sad if this deal means that he won't get another start in the bigs for a while. But given the Mets injuries, they could use the depth.
Well, it looks like the Mets are keeping Soler in the rotation for now, and are using Williams' option to hopefully get him pitching better in AAA.
